Q.dura: dehesive and
The specialist for roll covers made of rubber, polyurethane and composite materials will this year focus on the PU cover Q.dura (photo), a new development for converting systems prone to glue deposit build-ups on the marrying roll. Due to the dehesive and dirt-repellent surface, Q.dura reduces the cleaning intervals and significantly increases the service life of the cover due to its excellent abrasion resistance.

SchäferRolls is utilising the slogan "we tiss you” to launch its new roll cover product portfolio for all kinds of tissue manufacturing and converting applications. As the pressure to enhance machine performance intensifies, hand-in-hand with the desire to meet customer quality standards, this drives continual efforts to optimise tissue product manufacturing. The choice of roll cover plays a significant part in the manufacturing process, as it directly affects the bulk and softness of tissue products, as well as dewatering performance and the runnability of the equipment. All SchäferRolls tissue roll covers have been designed to meet special demands with respect to roll position, end product type and machine operator preferences.
A special focus will be on the new tisQ.R pressure roll cover, which has outstanding elasticity and excellent surface stability to ensure a safe and highly efficient roll operation, also without internal cooling.

SchaeferRolls has appointed John "J. T." Fisher as the new Vice President and General Manager of its US subsidiary SchaeferRolls Inc., which is based in Farmington, New Hampshire. Mr. Fisher replaces Ms. Debra Breed, who recently left the company.
J. T. Fisher has been active in the North American paper industry for more than 30 years and has worked in responsible positions for various pulp and paper manufacturers and suppliers to the paper industry. He has extensive experience in the sector, especially in operations, sales, applications, and management. Prior to his current appointment, he was employed as the Sales & Marketing Director of SchaeferRolls Inc., where he was responsible for sales in the US, Canada, and Central America.
Since 2008, SchaeferRolls Inc. has been producing high-performance roll covers from rubber, polyurethane, and composite materials at Farmington for the North American paper and film industry. The production facilities are designed for roll covering and maintenance and repair services on rolls with a length of up to 10 m, a diameter of 1,500 mm, and a total weight of 55 t.
As part of its investment measures, SchaeferRolls GmbH & Co. KG has again increased its crane capacity at its Renningen plant. The installation of a new overhead crane with a lifting capacity of 50 t required the strengthening of crane girders and the building structure. The new crane and the two existing 25 t overhead cranes in the shop floors now make it possible to move rolls and roller systems with unit weights of up to 100 t when the three cranes work together. This means that the production areas at SchaeferRolls now fully meet the prerequisites for coating and servicing the largest and heaviest roll systems used in modern industrial machines.
The upgraded crane system has significantly increased the flexibility of the company's production facilities.
From October 12th through October 14th 2011, SchäferRolls will exhibit at the 18. MIAC - International Exhibition of Paper Industry in Lucca (Italy).
Located in Tuscany, the centre of the European tissue industry, MIAC addresses the executives of the international paper and tissue manufacture and converting industry as well as their supply industries.
You will find us at the mutual booth of TECNICART s.a.s.. We will be happy to welcome you right on the spot for interesting discussions.
By using an innovative polyurethane material and an ingenious cover structure, we have considerably increased drilling and grooving depths of press rolls and suction press rolls – without affecting the stability of the cover surface. cyclus 3 polyurethane offers excellent wear resistance and unparalleled dynamic strength.
The combination of material properties, cover design and our special production processes makes it possible to groove cyclus 3 covers up to a depth of 3 mm and to blind drill them up to a depth of 11 mm, while maintaining the same drill depth across the whole width of the roll cover. The result: efficient dewatering due to significantly improved water storage volumes and uniform hydraulic pressures in the roll nip. In addition, the specific cover structure allows for more grinding allowance, hence for repeated regrooving: cyclus 3 covers can be given a three millimeter groove three times before needing to be replaced. cyclus 3 covers provide three full lifecycles, thus considerably reducing the roll cover’s total cost of ownership.
Another process innovation was accomplished by creating the SchäferRolls SurfaceOptimizer, a computer simulation that makes it possible to optimise roll cover surfaces and plan the dewatering performance on site with the customer.
Our new generation of polyurethane roll covers offers a number of convincing benefits. That’s why we have already received orders from reputable companies within a very short period of time.
The Kübler & Niethammer paper factory in Kriebstein (Germany) was able to significantly increase the running time of the applicator roll in the PM1 film press through the use of a U.coat polyurethane cover from SchäferRolls.
According to Michael Moser, Production Manager at Kübler & Niethammer, the U.coat roll cover displayed very positive running time characteristics, in relation to service life, as well as coating application quality. “We are very satisfied”, reports Michael Moser. “We have achieved nearly double the running time of the conventional rubber roll covers and would certainly have been able to run longer without any problem. The coating application was very homogeneous during the entire running time.”
Kübler & Niethammer produces 85,000 t of coated offset papers per annum.
In addition to the implementation at Kübler & Niethammer, SchäferRolls` U.coat roll covers are running with great success in two additional film presses in German-speaking countries. In one application, the best results are being achieved in a combined operation with starch and coating. In another implementation, three customer-specifically, optimised HybriFlex versions in a dual layer design have already been delivered, which have excelled through extraordinary mechanical robustness and an excellent life time.
Roll cover manufacturer and roll systems supplier SchäferRolls GmbH & Co. KG has expanded its interest in Sava-Schäfer d.o.o., Kranj (Slovenia) from the 50% share it has successfully held since 2001 to 100%. This means that the Renningen-based company now holds all shares formerly held by Slovenian co-partner Sava d.d.
Gregor Azman, managing director of Sava-Schäfer d.o.o. since 2007, will continue to lead the company under the new company name SchäferRolls d.o.o. Michael Schwahn, who is also a managing shareholder of SchäferRolls GmbH & Co. KG, has been appointed as a further managing director. SchäferRolls d.o.o. has 40 employees, producing rubber and polyurethane based roll covers in Kranj, Slovenia. Its products are primarily aimed at the Eastern European paper, film, textile, furniture, and metal industries.
The decision to fully acquire the Slovenian company reflects the consistent implementation of the international growth strategy of SchäferRolls. The aim is to achieve the prerequisites for intensifying know-how exchange by means of product specialisation and the transfer of standards and experience in production and to consolidate the company's market position by extending its sales network to tap new market shares in Eastern Europe.
